Q: What type of emergency will cause the association to take action?

A:
During large scale emergencies such as earthquakes, fires, and prolonged power outages the Emergency Operations Center may be activated to provide information or assistance during an emergency. Also, should civil authorities declare an emergency, the association will activate the procedures outlined in the Emergency Response and Communication Plan. The Town of Truckee's Emergency Plan outlines natural, technical, and "man-made" hazards that could lead to emergency situations that would cause the Town to declare an emergency.

Q: What is the Emergency Response and Communication Plan? ^ back to top

A:
The Emergency Response and Communication Plan is first and foremost a communication plan designed to outline the process that Tahoe Donner staff will initiate should an emergency occur. The plan’s purpose is to provide a proactive response strategy to minimize our members’ immediate concerns and assure them that their association’s staff has been mobilized and is onsite to provide information, and on a limited basis, shelter, food, and water.

Q: How does the Emergency Response and Communication Plan work? ^ back to top

A:
The plan works by establishing areas of responsibility for several entities. These entities consist of the following: civil authorities; an Emergency Operations Manager (EOM); an Emergency Liaison Officer (ELO), an Information Office Manager (IOM); security officers; and food and beverage personnel.
Click here (66KB PDF) to review the flowchart that outlines the responsibilities of these entities.

Once civil authorities classify an event as an emergency the entities work to establish the proper procedures for setting up, if necessary, emergency provisions. This includes the activation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

Q: What is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC)? ^ back to top

A:
The EOC will consist of a central command and control station and an evacuation center in case of an emergency. Under standard conditions, Northwoods Clubhouse will be utilized as the EOC, unless the building is under siege, in which case Trout Creek Recreation Center or the Downhill Ski Lodge will be utilized. It will be staffed with the EOM, IOM, ELO, and a security officer. An eight channel UHF radio base station will be supplied by security to support internal communications and a 14-channel VHF high band transceiver will be set up to monitor civil authorities radio traffic.

Q: What do I do in case of an emergency? ^ back to top

A:
To report an emergency contact local civil authorities by calling 9-1-1. Remember, only use 9-1-1 to report a true emergency. According to the Emergency Response Plan there are two sources for information in case of an emergency:

1) Local Truckee radio station, KTKE 101.5 FM, has agreed to serve as the association’s official emergency announcement provider. They are also the local emergency announcement provider for the Town of Truckee, CalTrans, and Nevada County.

2) If the Emergency Operations Center is activated during large scale emergencies such as fires and prolonged power outages, you may call (530) 582-9601 to receive updated information. This line, which is a voice mail only line is capable of receiving up to ten incoming calls simultaneously, will be utilized by the Emergency Operations Manager to provide updated information to members and to the public. The recorded message will be regularly updated by the Emergency Operations Manager as new information becomes available.

3) If possible, once the plan is activated, updated information will be disseminated to subscribing members via Tahoe Donner Instant News Email.

Q: What happens during a minor or limited emergency? ^ back to top

A:
When an emergency has been declared by civil authorities but that emergency is not so widespread or severe as to require a full scale, mandatory evacuation, the EOM may declare a “limited emergency.” During a limited emergency the EOM may designate Northwoods Clubhouse as a temporary evacuation center for residents. If necessary blankets, food, and water may be provided.

Q: What can I do to prepare for an emergency? ^ back to top

A:
There are several emergency preparedness techniques you may employ. We strongly recommend that you ensure your contact information is current with the association. Click here to update your contact information. Also, you should develop your own emergency plan.
