Tahoe Donner’s Land Management Department Resumes Fuel Reduction Efforts and Protects Evacuation Routes

Throughout the summer and fall, Forestry Department crews will be working on various projects to improve forest health and enhance the community and surrounding environment’s resilience to wildfire, drought and bark beetle infestation. Projects may include forest thinning, dead tree removal and mastication in open spaces and common areas.

Common area fuel reduction work will focus on areas adjacent to this year’s defensible space cycle and evacuation route along Northwoods Boulevard. The map shows planned common area projects for 2024. However, these are subject to change as resources may be pulled to other areas of the association due to unforeseen circumstances such as high tree mortality and hazardous trees. Additional fuel reduction and dead tree removal work will be conducted in open space, including a grant project with funding provided by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Wildfire Resilience Program.

Physical signage will be posted along roadways and trails when work is in progress or to signify trail closures. Please exercise caution when work crews are present and abide by trail closures for your safety and project efficiency.
